Cervical traction is needed when a cervical injury occurs and is caused by degenerative disc changes, disc compression’s, whiplash or other disc issues occur. When one treatment doesn’t work, there are other options, including cervical traction collars. Cervical traction collars are designed to help relieve the pressure put on your nerve root by elongating the inter-vertebral disc space in the neck. Pain is relieved and mobility is increased, sometimes almost immediately.
Two popular cervical traction collars are compared; the DDS Cervitrac Cervical Traction Collar and the DDS Max Cervical Traction Collar.
DDS Cervitrac Cervical Traction Collar
Where many cervical traction devices require you to either remain lying down during treatment or have use of a doorway to use the device, the dds cervitrac allows you to remain upright and mobile while it works. It is easy to use, comfortable and gives you relief from pressure on the nerve root in your cervical spine that causes pain and discomfort. It is often used in addition to rehabilitative treatments for many different types of cervical spine problems, including those who may be facing surgery. The DDS Cervical Traction Collar works on the most common cervical spine conditions, including:
• Pinched nerve
• Herniated or bulging disc
• Cervical radiculopathy
• Cervical pain syndrome
• Degenerative disc disease
• Whiplash
• Chronic migraines
How does the DDS Cervical Traction Collar work?
The DDS Cervical Traction Collar uses VAPTM Technology, or (Vertical Air Pressure) to help elongate the cervical spine. The collar includes an expansion collar that inflates up to 25 lbs of distraction force by use of a hand-pump, to separate the vertebrae in either the upright or laying down position so you can remain mobile while receiving your treatment. This treatment helps to re-hydrate discs, reduce muscle tension, and relieve pain. In many cases, pain may be reduced or relieved immediately upon the first treatment.
DDS Max Cervical Collar
The DDS Max gives you the ultimate pressure relief on the nerve roots. The inflatable collar significantly lifts the cranium to elongate the cervical spine using the newest technology of an inflatable collar and air pressure. The collar inflates vertically so that you can be upright and ambulated during treatments rather than keeping you confined to a lying down position or in a doorway like many other traction devices.
How does the DDS Max Cervical Collar work?
The DDS Max Cervical Collar fits around your neck. The ergonomically designed chin and chest rest are comfortable and are held stable by use of the Velcro connectors. The injection nozzle is used to hand-pump air into the inflatable collar that lifts the cranium to stretch the intervertebral discs so that the pressure on the nerve root is relieved and discs can rehydrate. You can adjust the amount of air in the collar with the pump to add, release, or deflate the air altogether.
The DDS Max features include:
• Traction collar – The traction collar is designed with a unique inflatable belt to give a traction effect
• Chin collar – The chin collar is ergonomically designed to give you the most comfort and support in the front
• Velcro-type connectors – Easy to use, set at fixed points, they create the tract effect while stabilizing pressure on the collar bone and chest area.
• Support frame – The frame is designed with a straight forward design that creates a traction effect
• Injection nozzle – The inflation system is easy to use, equipped with a hand pump for you to control the pressure and deflate as needed
Differences Between The DDS Cervitrac and DDS Max
Although both devices are very similar in their purpose and usage for cervical spine relief, and both work to relieve the pain from the same cervical spine conditions, the difference between the two really lies in the design. The DDS Max offers a slightly different design in the chin and chest support areas than that of the DDS Max.
In addition the DDS cervitrac can be worn while lying down thanks to the traction attachment that it comes with, while the DDS Max can only be worn while standing or sitting. The Cervitrac is also covered by most health insurances including Medicare while the Max is not covered by health insurance and can only be purchased for cash.
