Can You Fix A Broken Denture

November 11, 2016

Dentures are delicate and although they appear to be strong because of how they look and the workout they get daily, they can be damaged. Normal wear and tear usually has nothing to do with it, either. What typically damages false teeth is how they are handled. For example, they can be dropped accidentally or easily knocked off of a night stand or counter top.

There are also many different ways in which dentures can be damaged. Typically a fall to a hard surface will crack the acrylic, break off a tooth or completely snap the dental plate in half. Chips, scratches and if you wear partial dentures, a clip or clasp can be bent or broken. Dentures are not designed to sustain any kind of damaging blow.

The Easy Fix

A false tooth that is damaged is an easy do-it-yourself repair. You can fix false teeth at home with little expense. If you need that quick fix immediately you can use super glue for the repair. As long as you wash and dry the surfaces the glue will be used on, and use only a small drop of glue, you will be able the wear the denture once it dries.

The Slightly More Complicated Fix

Depending on the type of damage you are trying to repair, there are several commercial products available to fix a broken denture. For example, you can fix a break, mend cracks and replace loose teeth with the Repair-It Broken Denture Repair Kit. It is one of a number of paste products used for these kinds of repairs.

The Perk Denture Repair Kit contains 28 denture teeth. It is designed specifically to repair and replace a broken, chipped or missing tooth. The Temptooth Temporary Tooth Replacement Product is a substance that can be shaped to replace a tooth by making a new temporary one. When done according to instructions, this is a realistic replacement. There are also a number of home remedy fixes that you may want to look into and possibly try. You can find them on the internet with a few instructional videos posted on YouTube.

The quality of the results will depend on what it is you are trying to repair. Even if you are not confident enough in attempting one of these fixes, it is good to know many options exist.

Should You Really Try To Repair A Denture?

Damaging a denture is annoying and left unfixed can cause problems with eating, speaking and smiling. The various do-it-yourself repair kits afford you an opportunity to remedy the situation without much problem and at minimal cost. However, these quick and easy fixes should be used only as a temporary repair until you can see a denturist.

Even though some of these repair kits have been able to extend the life of false teeth for many wearers, they should only be used to hold you over until you are able to schedule an appointment for a professional repair. For more information on how to fix a broken denture, click here
